With its mix of bush and coastal views, the tourist-favoured 10km walk from Manly to the Spit Bridge near Mosman makes you feel like you’re a world away from the hectic city life. The National Park offers spectacular views of the entrance to the harbour and over to the city, and if you wander off the track slightly, you’ll be able to see wild flowers, birdlife and Aboriginal engravings at Grotto Point. Make sure you take plenty of water and sunscreen during the hotter months as you might be on the track for quite some time – especially if you are planning on taking a swim along the way, which I would definitely recommend. Reef Beach and Forty Baskets Beach are beautiful for a stop and dip in the ocean.

Spit Bridge to Manly OR Manly to Spit Bridge

There’s pros and cons with both. If you finish in Manly, you’ll find lots of great places to choose from to drink, eat and re-fuel. I much prefer finishing at Spit Bridge, because living in the Manly area I feel that this is more special and I get a change of the scenery. Well, I guess in the end, it doesn’t really matter.

Manly Ferry at the HEads

Manly Ferries at the Heads

The Spit Bridge to Manly walk is made up of a series of smaller trails. Generally well signposted, the trail becomes obscure in only one or two places, but if you retrace your footsteps and look again, you’ll find the way easily.

Beautiful Beaches along the Way

Beautiful Beaches along the Way

If you are starting at Manly, head west from the Manly Wharf and just hug the water. There’s a pedestrian path along Delwood and Fairlight Beach that will guide you into the National Park. From there, just follow the track along the coastal lines and walk through the outstanding scenery overlooking the Heads, Crater Cove and Grotto Point Light. It then drops into popular Clontarf Beach and a final bush track down to the Spit bridge.
